With Christmas just around the corner, RAC is urging motorists to keep safety front-of-mind this festive season to ensure everyone makes it to celebrate with their families and friends.

RAC General Manager Corporate Affairs Will Golsby said it’s a busy and high-risk time of the year on WA roads, and motorists need to drive accordingly.

“So far this year, 158 people have tragically lost their lives on WA’s roads — a devastating reality for far too many families who will have an empty seat at their Christmas table this year.

“Our thoughts are also with the many more whose lives have been forever changed by road trauma and are still learning to cope with their injuries.

“As we enter into one of the busiest times of the year, we’re urging Western Australians to take extra care behind the wheel — this includes ditching the distraction, slowing down, designating a skipper and looking out for each other.

“The number of deaths and serious injuries on our roads is unacceptably high and we all have a responsibility to make our roads safe, so that everyone can spend this valuable time with their friends and family.”

Double demerits are in place from Friday, December 20 until Sunday, January 5 inclusive.
