This is the second Kia we’ve had through the road test garage in as many weeks, and it didn’t bring quite as many pleasant surprises as the new Sorento Platinum did last week.

That’s ok though, because this boxy little hatch has soul. I know, because it says so on the bootlid.

Volkswagen has redeemed itself in a huge way with the updated Polo GTI, taking the under-equipped 2015 version and adding a rear camera and adjustable sports suspension for the 2016 model year.

Both these additions make the MY16 Polo GTI a far more convincing package. Combined with the manual gearbox option re-introduced with for 2015, this is the car the Polo GTI should have been in the first place.

There is far more substance to the updated Ford Ranger than just a blunter, snubbier nose.

In fact, think of that new snout as a billboard announcing the raft of changes under the skin that actually make the new Ranger a safer and more user friendly ute.

The Mark II Ranger now looks even tougher than its predecessor, which was already a bold design and well suited to the twin-cab ute market sector.
