Many Western Australians shop around for their new dream wheels at this time of year, before the end of financial year (EOFY) car sales fly past quicker than you can say ‘Lamborghini’.
So we decided to look into the cars that really get our members’ engines revving.

The top 10 car makes we insure include:

  1. Toyota
  2. Holden
  3. Hyundai
  4. Ford
  5. Nissan
  6. Mazda
  7. Mitsubishi
  8. Honda
  9. Subaru
  10. Volkswagen

Surprised?

It is interesting to see that the days of Holden versus Ford have now been superseded by the dependable Toyota. Ranked third on the list, Hyundai too is making headway.

We also decided to dig deeper and see what cars were most popular among different ages and genders. Toyota aside, Holden was the second most popular choice for Gen X, Y, Z and Baby Boomers aged between 52 and 70 years old, whereas well-priced Hyundai’s resonated more with members over the age of 70.

The swiftness of Suzuki was much more popular among females with more than 70 per cent owned by women, whereas Ford fanatics seemed to be more often male.

It also seems that the easy nature of an automatic car is far outweighing the classic manual with 65 per cent of our members driving automatics.

For the big day-dreamers, we discovered the most expensive cars we have insured include an Audi R8 and a Porsche 911 Carrera, each worth more than $300,000 – we’re certainly glad these members are careful enough to have car insurance!

If you do buy a car in the EOFY sales and are looking for car insurance, remember you get $100 off when you buy RAC Comprehensive Car Insurance online, as well as up to 25 per cent off if you purchase a fuel-efficient car in line with our Less Emissions Mission.

Happy shopping!
