A host of outstanding Western Australian sportspeople were recognised at the 2015 RAC WA Sports Star Awards recently. RAC joined forces with the WA Sports Federation to present the awards which acknowledge the achievements, both on and off the field, of our sportspeople while delivering road safety messages to the sporting industry.

Sport is often the hub of the community and is a great way to talk about road safety issues like alcohol, speed and drugs.

This year, Fremantle Dockers midfielder and Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe received the prestigious The West Australian RAC Sports Star Award for his remarkable efforts in the 2015 AFL season. Fyfe is the fourth footballer in 30 years to win the Sports Star Award and beat out several Olympic Games hopefuls for the honour.

RAC also supported the RAC Insurance Service to Sport Award and the RAC Insurance Beyond Sport Award. Judith Pilatti, William Sinclair and David Carr were joint recipients of the RAC Insurance Service to Sport Award for their contributions to netball, baseball and athletics in WA. The Landsdale Netball Club was presented with the RAC Insurance Beyond Sport Award. A member of their netball club, Taylah Parry, became an amputee in July after a serious motor vehicle incident. The Landsdale Netball Club fundraised $8,000 to buy gym equipment for Taylah so some of her rehabilitation could happen at home.
