Western Australia’s agricultural sector is one of the most progressive, varied and unique landscapes in the world. Planfarm, a farm consulting company who employ a large team of farm management consultants, agronomists, grain marketers and business and project managers, recently spent a day at RAC DTEC to undertake a business planning session and carry out customised driver training, tailored to meet the specific requirements of their team.

Planfarm provide a high quality, innovative agricultural service to improve the WA farming industry. They offer expert farm consulting services across the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia to help manage risks and achieve the greatest success in agricultural business. With more than 40 years of experience in the Wheatbelt region, their expert consultants are committed to helping clients maximise profits while minimising risks.

Our driver trainer, Jurgen Lunsmann, designed a course that focused on braking on gravel, evading unexpected obstacles and the effects of fatigue and inattention. This session was delivered at RAC DTEC utilising our dedicated training facilities including Conference Rooms and Vehicle Manoeuvring Areas followed by real life experience in AWD and 4WD vehicles on gravel roads in the Perth hills.

“We are passionate about addressing people’s driving needs across a spectrum of environments. Based on individual and organisational requirements we apply our knowledge and resources to provide customised training tailored to scenarios across all industry sectors and geographic regions, whether metro, country or mine-site requirements.

As Planfarm staff and consultants spend a large amount of time driving long distances of sealed and unsealed roads in the Wheatbelt, they tasked us with developing a half day advanced gravel drive course to better equip them to handle situations that may arise on the road.

“Most of the Planfarm staff were experienced in regional driving on gravel roads, but they hadn’t given much thought to the need for journey plans and the distractions of mobile phones while driving. From a written brief we developed a flexible, custom presentation and practical exercises which enabled us to focus on the specific needs that were briefed, and of the group that arose throughout the day.”

Planfarm’s Business Manager Colin Rose said “the team at RAC DTEC were able to create a package to perfectly meet our requirements. The conference facilities were ideal to conduct our business planning session, but the highlight was Jurgen’s customised training. This addressed the specific conditions we face travelling in the Wheatbelt and provided invaluable techniques to keep our team safe on the roads. Thanks for a great day!”

The result was excellent with their staff leaving with an advanced knowledge of key gravel driving techniques. As a result of the training Planfarm have been moved to develop a vehicle driver policy for their consultants which includes safe driving, mobile phone use and environmental concerns among others.

If your company has a planning day scheduled for the near future, why not incorporate a 2-4 hour defensive drive session into the day. We will work with you to develop a session that addresses key outcomes that would benefit your team.
