In order for you, or your employees, to receive a Statement of Attainment for accredited training completed after 1st January 2015, a Unique Student Identifier is required.

With an estimated three million enrolments in Vocational Education and Training each year, collecting and analysing information is essential to improving the skills within industry and the economy.

To address this need the Department of Industry is introducing the Unique Student Identifier (USI) on 1st January 2015.

This is a database recording all accredited outcomes for an individual, allowing them to see their completed training units and qualifications from all providers. It will also streamline assessment of pre-requisites and Recognition of Prior Learning.

RAC DTEC is ready for this significant change in the industry, but organisations that require accredited training need to ensure employees are aware of their responsibilities.

What do you need to do?

  • Please ensure that all employees booked to receive training create a USI by visiting usi.gov.au. A form of ID is required to complete this process.
  • A training coordinator or other company representative can apply on behalf of the employee with their consent.
  • It is important to record the USI and keep it in a safe place. Application only needs to be made once.
  • On attending a course the student will be asked to provide their USI

The USI is available online now and at no cost, but registration is compulsory and must be obtained before a participant completes their course. No Statement of attainment can be issued without a USI.
