UWA Motorsport team gains $15,000 RAC sponsorship

This post is part of our blog series about the RAC Community Sponsorships program. The RAC is committed to giving back to our members and the wider WA community through the Community Sponsorships program. Since 2011, the program has donated over $325,000 in sponsorship support to a variety of community initiatives across WA.

What is involved with this sponsorship?
Each year, the University of Western Australia Motorsport (UWAM) team take part in Formula SAE, an international engineering competition where students finance, design, build and race their own small open-wheeled vehicles. The RAC is investing in this year’s UWAM project, which is focusing on building a ‘greener’ car.

Why is the program being sponsored?
UWAM are aiming to develop a more fuel efficient engine and drivetrain. This is beneficial for the team’s outright performance, as over 10% of Formula SAE competition points are awarded for fuel efficiency. The project also falls in line with the RAC’s goal to reduce CO² emissions for WA vehicles, a goal that supports the RAC’s Less Emissions Mission program, which offers discounts to people with greener cars.
