Friday 29th November saw the Sustainable Energy Association of Australia (SEA) hire out the RAC Driving Centre for an exclusive event – Turning Over a New LEAF: The Role of Electric Vehicles in a Sustainable Future. Members and guests of SEA were invited to attend for an opportunity to drive the Nissan LEAF as well as hear from a wide range of speakers including:

  • Professor Thomas Braunl from the University of Western Australia, who gave an overview of EV developments locally and overseas, charging techniques, results of the WA EV Trial, and what to expect in the not-so-distant future.
  • Tristy Fairfield from Western Power spoke about Western Power’s interest in electric vehicles and activities in relation to EVs, as well as the current and expected uptake of EVs on the Southwest Interconnected System.
  • RAC’s Adam Savage spoke about the RAC’s Less Emissions Mission and how we are listening to the environmental concerns of our members. Adam also discussed how motorists with low emissions vehiclescan save money and reduce emissions.
  • Kylie Winter and Novak Jankovic from Nissan Australia spoke about the new Nissan Leaf.

A little about SEA and RAC

Formed in 2002, the Sustainable Energy Association works to support and promote the growth of the sustainable energy industry across Australia. RAC has been a valued member of SEA since 2007, a Gold Corporate member since 2012, and has worked closely with SEA on the development and adoption of sustainable energy technologies and practices.

The RAC has 2 Nissan LEAF electric vehicles in our fleet, as well as four charging stations, located at West Perth, Collier Pass and the Driving Centre offices.
